What is Stewardship

At the beginning of each year, The Woodlands Methodist Church emphasizes the value of stewardship, encouraging generosity and the annual financial commitments of its members to support the vital work of its ministries.

We believe stewardship is the faithful response to life’s uncertainties. It is the understanding that everything we have — our time, resources, talents, and even our struggles — belongs to God and can be used for His purpose.

When life shakes us, stewardship is the act of holding loosely to what is temporary so we can cling tightly to what is eternal. It means trusting that God does not shake us to break us, but to shape us into vessels of His love. By pouring ourselves out for others, we participate in His mission, ensuring that what spills out of our lives is generosity, hope, and an unshakable faith.

When the Shaking Starts

God Shakes to Activate Us

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

When You’re Broken and Spilled Out

God allows us to be broken to reveal hidden treasure

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is stewardship important for the church?

Even though the world shakes around us and we feel the rumbling in fragile economies, strained relationships, unexpected storms, there is still good news. Because of our faith in Jesus, we stand on an unshakable foundation. When we build our lives and invest our time, talents, and treasure in what God’s Word says will last forever, we are anchoring ourselves in that eternal kingdom that will never be shaken.

What if I’m already giving?

We are so grateful for your ongoing generosity and commitment to our church community. Even if you have already set up an automatic giving schedule, we invite you to share your annual intent to give by making a stewardship pledge. This step helps us thoughtfully plan for ministry needs and continue offering programs and events that nurture our congregation and serve the wider community. Please remember, a stewardship pledge reflects contributions to the general fund of the church and does not include other forms of giving, such as missions. Thank you for being a vital part of this meaningful work!

How can I participate in stewardship?

You can participate by making an annual commitment pledge and finding meaningful ways to honor God in your daily life. While we believe in the biblical tithe of 10% given to God, generosity can begin with any amount. Additionally, you can give of your time by volunteering on a serve team or participating in local missions projects. Together, we can make a difference and live out our faith through both giving and serving.

Does stewardship focus only on financial giving?

Not at all. Stewardship is about the holistic act of surrendering everything we have to God. While financial giving is part of it, stewardship also involves embracing who God made us to be and offering our time and talents to do His work on earth. These are all part of living a generous life of stewardship.

How does my giving leave a legacy?

Your contributions support ministries and programs that impact future generations, spread God’s Word and meet tangible needs in our church and beyond. You’re investing in eternity. Join us in making room for His work in our lives and in our community.
