MISSION TRIPS

Yes, you need a passport that does not expire within six months of the date of your return.

Safety is our number one concern. The ministries with which we partner know their own culture well and do everything possible to ensure we do not get into difficult situations. It is important that we obey instructions from the ministry staff at all times. U.S. State Department Travel Information and Advisories.

We advise you to contact your doctor or travel clinic for accurate information. Your doctor will often consult the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to determine this information. You might consider asking your physician about the possibility of prescribing a traveler’s diarrhea regimen as a precautionary measure in the unlikely event that you have issues with this malady on the trip.

Most countries use a 220- to 240-volt current for electrical outlets (the U.S. has 110-volt outlets). First, we recommend that you examine your appliances to determine if they can be used with 220-240 volts. If the appliance can safely tolerate the higher voltage, you will require a plug adapter that will allow you to plug into a wall socket. If your appliance cannot handle the alternative power source, you can try a power converter. North America and Central American countries typically have 110-volt, type A prong outlets that do not need an adapter. However, they rarely have three pronged outlets, so if your appliance has three prongs, you will need an adapter. To be safe, you can purchase one adapter that can be used in multiple countries with multiple configurations.

It is best to pack lightly. You can bring one checked bag under 50 pounds and, depending on the airline, sometimes a carry-on bag is allowed in addition to a purse or backpack.

Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Any modest clothing is appropriate to wear (no shorts and low-cut or revealing clothing). Bringing an extra pair of shoes is recommended in case one pair gets muddy or wet. Most people bring a change of clothing for each day. Men tend to wear dress shirts for Sunday worship, and women tend to wear nicer outfits or skirts for worship.
